Kerriann's FIRST BIRTHDAY

Originally I planned to sit down and write a lengthy and emotional entry on the night of Kerriann's birthday, after she was sound asleep.  That is what would have happened in a perfect world, but instead I spent my baby's first birthday with a horrible case of food poisoning :(.  I don't want to take away from my sweet girl's first birthday post, but I do want to explain why it took me so long to write this, and why there are no pictures of me with her on her big day.

The morning of Kerriann's first birthday we started the day by taking her to her 12 month check-up at Dothan Pediatrics.  Our regular doctor, Dr. Brown, was out of town so we saw Dr. Straasburg.  He is also a great doctor, and was actually the one who prescribed her allergy medicine a few months ago.  She's definitely developed a fear of the doctor's office and fussed from the moment the nurse asked us to set her on the scale.  She weighed in at a whopping 15 lbs 6 oz and was 27 in!  Such a tiny little thing, she still wears size 6-9 month clothing!  I have been joking that we are going to be sending her to kindergarten in the size 24 month onesies that she got for her birthday ;).  Maybe she'll surprise us and have a few growth spurts by then?  Anyways, Dr. Straasburg said she looked great so after a few shots we were all finished at Dothan Peds.  Her next check-up will be at 15 months.

After her check-up we stopped at Mafooski's Deli in Daleville to have sandwiches with Kevin before he went in for the day.... and this is where it all goes downhill for me.  I started feeling sick towards the end of lunch and as the day went on I felt worse and worse.  By dinner time I felt extremely nauseous but I really wanted to celebrate so I pushed myself to make a special chicken dinner... I even picked up a few cupcakes for desert.  Kevin and I also planned on opening a bottle of wine or champagne that we received as a gift when she was born.  After dinner, cupcakes, and opening the last of Kerriann's presents, we put her to bed and it was all I could do to change clothes.  I went straight to bed and honestly didn't leave my bed until Friday when I finally went to the doctor!  Not the way that Kevin and I had pictured the evening going, but I guess these things happen.  A week later, I am just so happy to be able to stomach food again!

Here are the few pictures we managed to get on Kerriann's first birthday... we also have a video of us singing happy birthday to her so I'll upload that soon as well... along with a video of her walking!

PS Thank you SO much to all of our friends and family who sent gifts and cards to Kerriann.  They really mean so much to her, and us, especially with us living so far away.  The saying "it's the thought that counts" is so true when everyone you know and love is a 15 hour drive.  Each time we opened a package we were reminded of how many people miss and love our family!  Thanks again!
